Top Budget Tablets

A good tablet does not have to be expensive. We picked up 12 models, the purchase of which does not hit the family budget - but at the same time they will be very practical and convenient.

How to choose a good cheap tablet - tips and criteria

Most budget tablets are equipped with very average or even frankly weak components. Therefore, in order to get pleasure from use (and not continuous disappointments), when choosing such a device, it is worth paying attention not to the screen size, as many do, but to other specifications.

The main selection criteria are:

  1. CPU. It is undesirable if it is Rockchip, Allwinner or Spreadtrum. These manufacturers produce very "weak" chips with low productivity, but at the same time high power consumption. A good solution would be a tablet on some relatively “fresh” processor from MediaTek, an ideal one from Qualcomm;

  2. The amount of RAM. From this parameter depends on the performance of the tablet when performing several tasks at once - for example, when surfing the web with simultaneous work “in the background” of some messenger or social network client. Considering that 2024 and even Google Play Services are actively consuming up to 200 MB of RAM outside the window, the “minimum viable” RAM is 1 GB. Better, of course, more;

  3. The amount of permanent memory. The internal drive stores the operating system itself, the applications installed by the user, their data and other useful information (for example, photos and music). As a result, the larger the amount of persistent memory, the better. It is desirable that the tablet has an internal drive of at least 8 GB, and the optimal volume is 16 GB.

  4. The remaining parameters should be selected based on their needs. For example, for permanent access to the Internet, you will need SIM card support and 3G or 4G. The screen diagonal is more convenient because the image quality depends on the resolution and pixel density. A capacious battery will provide longer battery life (but the specific value depends on usage scenarios).

  5. It is desirable that the tablet has a slot for memory cards. Usually, the internal storage of budget tablets is small, 8 or 16 GB - and this is extremely small, especially if you want to take a couple of movies with you on the road or download offline maps for your navigator. Place this content will be on the memory card.

  6. If we talk about manufacturers, then budget tablets are produced by almost all companies that generally specialize in similar electronics. Good solutions can be found in the range of Lenovo, Huawei and Samsung. Manufacturers of prestigio, Archos, Digma and BB-Mobile specialize in the release of low-cost tablets.

Digma Plane 1601 3G

Rating: 4.7

Digma Plane 1601 3G

With the rest of the specifications - all at the appropriate level. Tablet processor - quad MediaTek MT8321 with a clock speed of 1.3 GHz; operational and permanent memory - for the “minimally viable” volume (1 and 8 GB, respectively); 5000 mAh battery provides up to 1 full day of mixed use.

But the main advantage of the tablet is the support of the mobile Internet. It is equipped with a slot for installing SIM-cards, and two at once, and can communicate with 3G networks. MicroSD card tray is also available.

Why second place in the ranking: Hardware basis of the previous (Digma Plane 1601 3G), but more resource-intensive operating system.

Description: Prestigio Wize PMT3401 uses the same hardware as Digma Plane 1601 3G — a MediaTek MTK8321 processor with four cores and a clock speed of 1.3 GHz; 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory; 5000 mAh battery; two slots for SIM-cards, Internet support using 3G technology; MicroSD card tray; 10.1-inch IPS-screen with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels; and even a 2 MP camera.

The only difference between the two tablets is in the OS used. If the model from Digma works on an already old, but suitable for most tasks, Android 5.1 Lollipop; the Prestigio device uses Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Virtues

  • Display with realistic color reproduction;

  • Good autonomy;

  • High-quality assembly;

disadvantages

  • Few operational and permanent memory;

  • Cameras added "for show";

  • Substandard speaker;

BB-Mobile Techno Mozg 7.0

  • 3G support;

  • High-quality assembly;

  • Lightweight and compact;

disadvantages

  • Low autonomy due to battery and “voracious” processor;

  • Slow "cold start" GPS;

  • Noticeably heated;
