Wristwatch mechanisms: types and differences

Wristwatch mechanisms: types and differences

The durability and operability of the watch directly depend on the quality of the parts of the mechanism and their assembly - there should be no errors or inaccuracies here, only a harmonious design with a certain principle of work. All modern models of watches can be divided into two groups: quartz and mechanical, in which models differ only in the source, which provides the device with energy for continuous operation.

  1. Quartz watch. In this mechanism, there is a battery and an electronic unit that sends signals to the working engine every minute. Due to the physical characteristics of a quartz crystal, high-precision and stable operation of watches is ensured without the need to additionally wind them. The frequency remains constant, so quartz watches have a longer service life.

  2. Mechanical watches. In the accessories of the mechanical type, a spring is wound, which, unwinding, causes the drum to move and engage the whole mechanism in operation. The accuracy of the movement of such watches is associated with environmental factors (temperature, position, wear of individual elements and much more).

Tightness and water resistance of modern watches

Tightness and water resistance of modern watches

To choose a watch for a man or a woman, you need to decide what they need an accessory for and what parameters it should have. So, just an attractive women's watch with a bright design may not have the most reliable case, but a device that travels with an athlete must be distinguished by high durability and such a feature as tightness.

Water resistant and water resistant watches are distinguished - their difference is that the former are able to protect the mechanism from ingress of minor volumes of water, while the latter can withstand pressure at depth under water. Therefore, when the accessory has the inscription “water resistant”, it is necessary to find the numbers corresponding to the degree of water resistance.

  1. 3 ATM - 5 ATM. This is the minimum protection against water, which will ensure the functioning of the clock after spraying, washing hands, rain, training and similar situations.

  2. 10 ATM. These watches are designed for water sports, but not used for full immersion.

  3. 20-30 ATM. The indicator “200 m” and higher indicates that the clock can be safely taken with you to a depth of several hundred meters without worrying about their safety.

It is very important to remember that after immersion in seawater, the watch should be washed and dried, and in no case try to influence them in water.

Materials and brands: difficulties of choice

Materials and brands: difficulties of choice

As a rule, high-strength metal alloys are used in the manufacture of the main case of a wristwatch, then several types of materials can be used as external glass. The glass protects the dial from mechanical impact and a variety of damage, dust, which can damage the whole mechanism. Currently, most companies use the following materials in production:

  1. Khezalit - transparent plastic (acrylic glass), which is well withstand loads and temperature changes. The material is difficult to break, but even with a strong blow, it does not shatter into fragments, but retains integrity. Plastic, perhaps, remains the cheapest material that is used to create affordable everyday and sports models.

  2. Artificial crystal is a mineral glass that can withstand the load, but is slightly less resistant to scratching. This material is used everywhere to create watches of the average price category, it is also easy to replace mineral glass from any skilled craftsman.

  3. Sapphire glass is the most expensive glass used in the manufacture of high-quality watches. For many years, its coating remains smooth and glossy, without scratches and scuffs due to high strength.

Often, manufacturers make a combined glass for men's and women's watches - the main layer of mineral glass and thin - from sapphire. In pursuit of successful sales of products, modern firms produce a large number of collections in order to please the largest number of customers and diversify their product range. However, there are brands that have won the love of buyers with the reliability and durability of their accessories. Among such companies are Patek Philippe, Breguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre and more accessible representatives - Casio, Diesel, Guess, Paris Hilton.

In the following articles, our experts tell how to choose a men's bag and secrets hat selection.
